Enkin Binderstape of Bookwahj Alliance sent this emkay transcript to us to post here. Thank you for sharing it with us, Enkin.

(7:05:34 PM) ***Enkin comes into the Spindle. "Evening, everyone."
(7:05:44 PM) MadGastro: Hi, Enkin.
(7:06:10 PM) MadGastro: I suppose people will start coming in before much longer. the chat's only an hour away
(7:06:51 PM) Enkin: That's true. Of course, Zayzans aren't always known for their punctuality.
(7:07:48 PM) MadGastro: Heh. Neither am I. It's why I made sure to sign in early this morning, and set the application to chime at me when people started coming in.
(7:13:00 PM) Enkin: We've come to terms with it on a cultural level. That's why you'll almost never see us use exact times.
(7:21:25 PM) MadGastro: Some of the cultures on Tellus have made their own adjustments, knowing they won't be on time.
(7:21:58 PM) MadGastro: I'm told that the Indonesians (I think) call it "rubber time," and while they may give exact times for things, people aren't expected to hold to them very precisely.
(7:29:28 PM) Enkin: That's very interesting. We can give exact times but the only ones who use them are those that need them: scientists for the most part, and some others.
(7:30:25 PM) Kosmik: Exact times matter for Riders, Enkin
(7:30:46 PM) ***Enkin smiles. 'But you are scientists, my friend.'
(7:31:23 PM) ***Kosmik bows. "True enough. And artists, and performers too."
(7:31:53 PM) ***Kosmik waves to the room. "Greetings, all."
(7:38:21 PM) MadGastro: Hi, Mikasa
(7:38:51 PM) MadGastro: Sorry, I was on the phone with my father and a friend of his who wants to cook with me.
(7:39:05 PM) Kosmik: Oh, shared cooking is a fine treat
(7:39:09 PM) Enkin: Do you like to share your kitchen like that?
(7:39:24 PM) Liand [~Liand@4F7E291B.D606BB30.4419D07D.IP] entered the room.
(7:39:44 PM) MadGastro: Usually, I do. Some people aren't very good share a kitchen with. But I'm very excited at the notion of cooking with my father's friend.
(7:39:49 PM) Kosmik: I'll share it with anyone who has more patience in it than I
(7:40:12 PM) ***Liand enters with a small entourage of nagara. He waves to the room. "Greetings, nagara, Zayzans, visitors!"
(7:40:15 PM) MadGastro: He's from a India, which is very far away, and where the food is very different. I love Indian food, though, and I'm really pleased to be able to learn more about it.
(7:40:49 PM) MadGastro: Hello, Liand!
(7:40:51 PM) Kosmik: Ho, Liand, let me get a drink or two in me before you start pestering with your questions
(7:42:13 PM) MadGastro: Say, is anyone from CLabs planning on logging this and making it available to people who miss the chat?
(7:42:14 PM) Liand: Me? A pest? You must be thinking of someone else, Mikasa. But we're here early to set up.
(7:43:00 PM) Enkin: We have something like Indian food here, but it's really more of a fusion cuisine, I think you'd call it. Of necessity, I think, because of missing ingredients.
(7:43:37 PM) MadGastro: Yes, I imagine some of them would be hard to get. They're hard to get where I am, too, some of them.
(7:43:50 PM) Liand: Yes, this is all being recorded.
(7:44:41 PM) Kosmik: Shh, you'll get Enkin started on us making history again, and it's hard to imagine making history sipping drinks and chatting in my friend's fiber shop
(7:44:44 PM) MadGastro: I'd love to see what Zayzans are doing with Tellurian cuisine. You can learn an awful lot from what other cultures do with your own dishes.
(7:44:46 PM) Enkin: There are only a few restaurants, but they are very popular. Sometimes you have to wait a while to get in, but they bring you hot bread while you are waiting.
(7:45:19 PM) MadGastro: I love Indian breads, especially naan and poori.
(7:45:28 PM) MadGastro: I can never get my poori to puff right, though. :(
(7:46:13 PM) MadGastro: Thanks, Liand, I'm glad.
(7:47:17 PM) Liand: You're welcome. I'd be a pretty poor journalist though if I forgot to set my emkay to record.
(7:48:32 PM) MadGastro: I just wanted to be certain, since Glinda can't be here, and I know she'd like to at least be able to see what she missed.
(7:49:39 PM) Kosmik: Enkin, have you tried the cranberry-onion naan at Waves From India in The Heights?
(7:50:14 PM) Enkin: I did. It was delightful.
(7:50:21 PM) MadGastro: cranberry naan? My goodness!
(7:50:31 PM) Enkin: And the view of the city! So memorable.
(7:50:31 PM) MadGastro: It sounds lovely, but I've never heard of such a thing.
(7:50:34 PM) Kosmik: cranberry and onion
(7:50:41 PM) Kosmik: those little green onions
(7:51:05 PM) MadGastro: Yes, but I've heard of allia being used in naan, just not cranberries. Dried, I suppose?
(7:51:16 PM) MadGastro: Scallions, you mean?
(7:52:36 PM) Kosmik: hmm, I think they were fresh and baked into it with the cranberries
(7:52:58 PM) MadGastro: Sorry, I meant were the cranberries died?
(7:53:03 PM) Kosmik: if I recall correctly, it's been a year or two since I've eaten there
(7:53:13 PM) MadGastro: dried
(7:53:33 PM) Kosmik: oh yes, the cranberries were dried. easier to import that way
(7:53:48 PM) winterwind [~chatzilla@NewNet-55EBDCA0.nc.res.rr.com] entered the room.
(7:53:59 PM) MadGastro: Well, and dried fruit is more common for baking anyway.
(7:55:29 PM) MadGastro: Sorry, it's my passion, I spend much of my time thinking about cooking and ingredients
(7:55:34 PM) Enkin: The fresh cheeses at Waves are especially good, because of the fresh livec milk from Three Flowers.
(7:55:41 PM) Kosmik: why apologize for passion?
(7:56:02 PM) Liand: Welcome, winterwind. We're still getting set up for the discussion.
(7:56:18 PM) winterwind: thanks, Liand
(7:56:33 PM) winterwind: Looks like you're having nice chat about food
(7:57:13 PM) Enkin: We're discussing a Zayzan-Indian fusion restaurant called Waves from India. And food in general.
(7:57:33 PM) winterwind: That sounds fascinating. I love Indian food.
(7:58:40 PM) MadGastro: Mik, because I do tend to go on and on and ON about it long after everyone around me is bored by the fine details I'm obsessing over
(7:58:44 PM) winterwind: Sorry if it's been answered already, but what's typical for Zayzan food?
(7:59:19 PM) Enkin: Typical in what way?
(7:59:26 PM) Fali [~Fali@4F7E291B.D606BB30.4419D07D.IP] entered the room.
(7:59:36 PM) MadGastro: OO, yes, I want to know, too! I'm starting to get a feel for your pantry, but I want to know more!
(8:00:51 PM) Fali: Mikasa, when are we going diving? Lili says "yes all good"
(8:00:56 PM) MadGastro: Like, what are your staple foods? Livec seems to provide the bulk of the dairy, and hempseed flour seems to be a staple, and it sounds as if you have a wide range of produce, but what other sorts of starches do you use? Proteins? Is seafood a major component of the PO diet?
(8:01:25 PM) winterwind: And spices. What sorts of flavors? How does it fuse with Indian?
(8:01:45 PM) MadGastro: (And this is why I wind up apologizing. Most people here couldn't answer this type of question well; they just don't think about food in those terms.)
(8:02:15 PM) Enkin: Hemp and bamboo are major crops which are used in a lot of forms. We do get most of our dairy from livex, and we have a few different egg-laying creatures as well. We do eat a lot of fish and seafood...
(8:02:22 PM) Fali: Seafood is far too much of a component of a Reacher diet.
(8:02:41 PM) Enkin: I'm no food expert though...
(8:02:44 PM) MadGastro: There's such a thing as too much seafood?
(8:02:48 PM) Fali: Pardon me, Outreacher, I forget my manners. Greetings the room
(8:03:11 PM) MadGastro: Hello, Fali.
(8:03:40 PM) Fali: MadGastro is it? For those of us born properly inland, yes there is too much fish
(8:04:16 PM) MadGastro: I"m from the coast myself, and the idea simply doesn't make sense to me. ;)
(8:04:20 PM) Liand: Ah! I am glad you are here, Fali. Here, put this receiver on please.
(8:04:34 PM) Fali: And where should I put it?
(8:04:55 PM) Liand: Uhm... it clips on.
(8:07:34 PM) Fali left the room (quit: Ping timeout).
(8:08:04 PM) Kosmik left the room (quit: Ping timeout).
(8:08:05 PM) Liand: Sink it! I appear to have just crashed Fali's emkay. It must be an incompatibility with the Spelaean libraries.
(8:08:17 PM) Fali [~Fali@4F7E291B.D606BB30.4419D07D.IP] entered the room.
(8:08:31 PM) MadGastro: I'm sure you'll work it out.
(8:08:52 PM) Liand: Maybe you can use your built-in receiver, Fali.
(8:09:08 PM) Fali: Liand, I tried to send a message on my emkay to Mikasa and your sanded receiver kicked us both off the m2i
(8:09:46 PM) Liand: It's those Spelaean libraries, like I said. Not quite compatible with proper Outreach libraries.
(8:09:49 PM) Fali: too bad the Tellurians can't hear him cursing right now
(8:10:16 PM) Fali: oh, now we're blaming Spelaean tech for the glitch? that's funny, Liand
(8:11:15 PM) MadGastro: Oh, dear...
(8:11:25 PM) Enkin: I didn't know that model emkay could even speak Saereshin.
(8:11:46 PM) Fali: What? what does Saeresh have to do with anything here tonight?
(8:12:18 PM) Kosmik [~Kosmik@4F7E291B.D606BB30.4419D07D.IP] entered the room.
(8:12:49 PM) Enkin: I thought I heard his emkay say something in Saereshin when it was restarting.
(8:13:20 PM) Kosmik: Enkin - I've had that problem for years
(8:13:22 PM) Liand: Uhm... in any case, my apologies for the technical difficulties.
(8:15:00 PM) Kosmik: My emkay started speaking in Saereshin after an accident years ago, it still does it when restarting even though I've had it repaired four times since then
(8:18:21 PM) Kosmik: Fali, don't send me any more private Ms while I'm connected to this button of a thing, just in case
(8:19:15 PM) MadGastro: Are you all set up now? Should we starting pestering you with questions?
(8:19:57 PM) Liand: No, not quite yet. But if those present in the Spindle would like to take their seats, it will help.
(8:20:05 PM) FreyaPax [~freyapaxt@NewNet-1589F2E6.austin.res.rr.com] entered the room.

(8:20:20 PM) FreyaPax: Evening folks, sorry if I'm late
(8:20:32 PM) Liand: Ah! Freya! Do you have those refreshments ready?
(8:20:43 PM) FreyaPax: Finally!
(8:21:02 PM) ***FreyaPax laughs and points towards the tables and vats and bins of yummy goodness
(8:21:09 PM) Enkin: Freya! It is good to see you, sister stillwheel.
(8:21:35 PM) MadGastro: Hi, Freya!
(8:21:45 PM) mode (+o Enkin) by FreyaPax
(8:21:54 PM) ***MadGastro is not especially patient.
(8:21:57 PM) mode (+o Liand) by FreyaPax
(8:22:10 PM) ***FreyaPax grins and waves at MG
(8:22:48 PM) FreyaPax: I've convinced several of my friends to help with keeping you all happy with drink and food, so if you need anything just say so
(8:24:31 PM) FreyaPax has changed the topic to: Come listen to Gurge Riders do what they do ummmmm second best? Or maybe even third.
(8:24:40 PM) FreyaPax: Tired brain but happy ship.
(8:25:19 PM) Enkin: I have some shells for Cloie. Mikasa said she's been studying them.
(8:26:13 PM) FreyaPax: Studying them, perhaps. I'm not real sure. She's being unusually quiet about whole thing. Thank you Enkin I'll make sure she gets them
(8:27:03 PM) MadGastro: Freya, if she's interested in Tellurian shells at all, I have some from the area I grew up in I could send, through your Tellurian agent.
(8:27:43 PM) FreyaPax: MG I will certainly ask!
(8:28:13 PM) Kosmik: Freya, your citrus-water never fails to refresh me entirely. I'm ready for the show
(8:29:34 PM) FreyaPax: Excellent, make sure to let me know if you need more.
(8:29:51 PM) Liand: Is everyone seated? I think we can begin. I'd like to begin, anyway.
(8:30:40 PM) Fali: I'm tabled, seats are constricting.
(8:31:10 PM) MadGastro: You're held for later discussion, Fali?
(8:31:51 PM) ***Fali frowns and taps at her emkay for a bit
(8:31:59 PM) ***MadGastro should be ignored when she says things like that.
(8:31:59 PM) Fali: I'm on the table
(8:32:09 PM) Fali: ?
(8:32:11 PM) MadGastro: Sorry, bad pun in English.
(8:32:46 PM) Liand: Hello, nagara and nagarei! This is Liand of Gurge Rider Daily, reporting live from Under the Spindle where we're about to begin our first in a series of discussions with the finest Gurge Riders of tonight and nights past. Tonight I'm going to be speaking to Fali Rider, one of the newest stars in Gurge Riding. Along to provide his colorful and unique input is none other than Mikasa Rider.
(8:33:45 PM) Liand: Under the Spindle is located in Harborview, and operated by the fine fiber artist, Freya Paxtwist, Stillwheel of Camp Peaceful Dreams. She's provided us with a lot of delicious refreshments, so come on by if you're in town.
(8:33:49 PM) Kosmik: Did I bring enough colors? I'm only wearing...5, I think
(8:34:22 PM) Liand: That's plenty, I'm sure.
(8:34:23 PM) ***FreyaPax nudges Mik on the way to the kitchen
(8:34:53 PM) Liand: Welcome Fali, Mikasa. How are you tonight?
(8:35:29 PM) Kosmik: Rather hungry after the fusion food discussion, Liand
(8:35:52 PM) ***Kosmik wanders over to the table and fills a plate with a sample of the available snacks
(8:36:11 PM) Liand: How about you, Fali?
(8:36:53 PM) ***Enkin nibbles on some carrots.
(8:37:09 PM) Fali: Great, Liand, I haven't felt this fabulous since Fyri was on the teat.
(8:37:54 PM) Fali: When do we get the real questions?
(8:38:56 PM) Liand: Eager as ever to serve your fans, I see, Fali. Speaking of questions, the audience here in the Spindle and elsewhere in the multiverse should feel free to jump in with questions at any time. As for my first...
(8:39:37 PM) Liand: Fali, we've been hearing a lot about your work with the dolphinpod. Do you think your work with Lili and the other dolphins, as well as of course the researchers will help your riding?
(8:40:19 PM) Fali: I seriously doubt the researchers will help my riding
(8:40:49 PM) TexAnne [~chatzilla@NewNet-1889EAFC.cpe.cableone.net] entered the room.
(8:41:10 PM) Liand: Welcome, TexAnne.
(8:41:15 PM) Fali: But working with the dolphins has certainly given me an understanding of movement in water that I wasn't learning elsewhere
(8:41:20 PM) TexAnne: Hi everybody1
(8:41:29 PM) MadGastro: Hi, Anne!
(8:41:43 PM) TexAnne: Thanks for the ping, MG.
(8:41:47 PM) TexAnne: Sorry to interrupt, Fali!
(8:42:00 PM) ***Kosmik blows a kiss to TexAnne while snacking
(8:42:09 PM) MadGastro: Fali, are the dolphins you're working with a species native to Mother, or are they Tellurian transplants?
(8:42:59 PM) MadGastro: Or, for that, matter, transplants from elsewhere?
(8:43:00 PM) Fali: MG: As I understand it, these dolphins are Zayzan for generations, but originally I believe the stock were Tellurian fuges
(8:43:17 PM) TexAnne: fuges = refugees?
(8:43:20 PM) Kosmik: Enkin, you know anything about our dolphins?
(8:44:43 PM) ***Enkin clears his throat. "They've been here for cycles now, since at least the ninth. Most of the records and research do suggest they originally came from Tellus."
(8:44:43 PM) Kosmik: TexAnne: yes, "slang" for refugee. we say it "fyooj"
(8:45:33 PM) Enkin: I don't know if enough genetic comparison has been done to suggest whether they could interbreed with Tellurian dolphins.
(8:45:49 PM) MadGastro: Ninth cycle? Can you translate for us Tellurians roughly how long ago that was?
(8:46:14 PM) MadGastro: I'm more curious to know if the translation work Zayzan researchers have done would be of any aid here.
(8:47:08 PM) Fali: The dolphins seem to think they're related to Tellurian cetae
(8:47:36 PM) TexAnne: Interesting. Tellurian researchers haven't been able to crack cetan languages yet.
(8:47:42 PM) Enkin: We're currently 440 years, almost 441 years into the 12th cycle. Each of our cycles lasts hundreds of years, so... a few thousand years. To be more specific would stray into pedantry.
(8:48:09 PM) Liand: What do the dolphins think of Gurge Riding?
(8:48:38 PM) Fali: We don't have it exact, Anne. But we've several hundred shared words and concepts these days, and working on more all the time
(8:49:05 PM) winterwind: That sounds like more than our researchers have gotten.
(8:50:00 PM) MadGastro: A lot more.
(8:50:31 PM) Fali: They think we're playing in the Gurge, though not as well as they do
(8:50:57 PM) TexAnne: They have a big advantage, growing up in a 3D environment!
(8:51:08 PM) Fali: A few at least seem to understand a little of our studying the Gurge, though I can't quite tell if they study it in their way
(8:51:09 PM) TexAnne: I mean with freedom of movement.
(8:51:11 PM) MadGastro: Of course, I'd imagine Zayzans have more practice translating the languages of other species from scratch, especially as we've never done it at all.
(8:51:33 PM) winterwind: You're probably right, MG
(8:52:04 PM) Fali: TexAnne: I expect you are correct in their advantage
(8:52:47 PM) Liand: Speaking of growing up in different environments, have you been able to relate their native understanding of the water to your native understanding of rock?
(8:53:26 PM) Fali: It is very difficult. Rock does not move as water does, nor sing the same songs.
(8:54:13 PM) TexAnne: Do your rocks literally sing? Certain of ours do, but only when conditions are just right.
(8:54:41 PM) ***FreyaPax slips into the kitchen to prepare more food
(8:55:21 PM) Fali: Some rock has resonance. Other rock is shaped and tuned.
(8:55:52 PM) TexAnne: Neat. Percussion instruments?
(8:56:33 PM) Fali: we have those as well, yes. Our percussionists are incredibly skilled
(8:57:09 PM) TexAnne: What kind of instruments are made of rock, then? (I'm a musician...)
(8:57:10 PM) Enkin: The rock walls of some of the Spelaean communities themselves are carved to 'play' in the constant winds.
(8:57:57 PM) MadGastro: Fali, if you're from so far inland, and your native element is stone, how did you become a Rider?
(8:59:57 PM) ***Fali stares wide-eyed at MG for a moment, then runs her hands slowly over her closely-shaved head
(9:00:32 PM) MadGastro: I'm sorry, was that rude?
(9:00:43 PM) Fali: I found a board and got in the water, same as anyone. ask me that sometime when I'm not on stage and I might have a different answer for you
(9:01:26 PM) Kosmik: Hey, even those of us who grew up next to the Gurge have to start by paddling shallows
(9:02:16 PM) Liand: Have the recent storms interfered with your training much?
(9:03:59 PM) Fali: the storms haven't, but I've only done about a third of the practice runs I'd intended for this Ride. dolphin time is riding time but not the same
(9:05:40 PM) ***Liand slips a joint from his shirt pocket and lights it, taking a toke.
(9:05:45 PM) ***Liand offers it to Fali.
(9:06:02 PM) Fali: MG : define "rude" in this context?
(9:06:46 PM) ***Fali takes it and smokes it a quarter down in one deep toke, then passes it back
(9:06:51 PM) MadGastro: Did the question offend you?
(9:07:57 PM) ***Liand looks at it in some surprise then grins, toking again and passing the depleted joint into the crowd.
(9:08:03 PM) ***Fali looks as if she is carefully choosing words.
(9:09:51 PM) Fali: I am not irritated, annoyed or angry. You have not caused me pain.
(9:11:43 PM) ***Fali hesitates a moment then smiles at MG, a charming grin that shows a dimple in her left cheek
(9:11:45 PM) MadGastro: You simply don't wish to give a more in-depth answer?
(9:12:15 PM) Fali: In this context, no.
(9:12:47 PM) Liand: If you've missed so much practice, are you still planning as ... flamboyant a ride as your last one? You were quite the talk of Port Outreach last time, but perhaps you'll be taking it easy.
(9:13:22 PM) ***Fali laughs at Liand
(9:13:37 PM) MadGastro: Thank you, Fali. If I ever make it across, perhaps I'll have a chance to buy you a drink and ask again.
(9:14:02 PM) Fali: One moment, let me refresh my drink. Surely you have a question you can have Mikasa answer for a brief break
(9:14:02 PM) Fali: ?
(9:14:44 PM) ***Fali taps on her emkay on her way to refill her drink
(9:14:48 PM) Liand: Mikasa, how has Fali's presence in the 'riders affected your riding?
(9:15:59 PM) Kosmik: Why, I'm filled with admiration for our newest full Rider.
(9:16:40 PM) Kosmik: I'm very interested to see her stunt this run as she integrates her climbing skills with riding. if she succeeds, well, it might just inspire me
(9:17:25 PM) Liand: Mikasa, since we have some visitors from elsewhere in the multiverse with us, can you explain how a sport ride differs from other rides? what is its purpose?
(9:18:47 PM) Kosmik: Well, most rides are for research, or rescue
(9:18:57 PM) TexAnne: Not transport?
(9:19:43 PM) Kosmik: sport rides are for fun, and entertainment
(9:19:47 PM) Enkin: There are also escort rides, which are very common. But I don't expect Mikasa goes on very many of those.
(9:20:18 PM) Enkin: The logistics of overseeing the Riders takes up much of the time during which other Riders help traffic into and out of the Harbor.
(9:21:01 PM) Kosmik: some, but not so many these days as I once did, with as much else as I do. but yes, Riders will escort nagara across the harbor, or occasional ships into the harbor and past the Gurge
(9:23:29 PM) Kosmik: I coordinate all the rider and Diver efforts with the Harbormaster, Teacher Town, traders and markets, really anyone who has ties to the harbor, which is effectively everyone in Port Outreach
(9:24:50 PM) Kosmik: but to continue your answer, a sport ride shows the waders what the Riders can do, in a way that fans and other nagara can enjoy, either by directly watching or just enjoying the good will and celebrations throughout the city
(9:25:27 PM) Enkin: It also helps establish, test, and maintain the Gurge Rider hierarchy -- as a society, they are very much a meritocracy.
(9:25:48 PM) Fali: I thought your speech to us the other morning by the docks said that it was a way to show ourselves and each other the limits of our skill
(9:25:58 PM) Liand: Welcome back, Fali.
(9:26:56 PM) ***Fali finishes a last few taps on her emkay before giving Liand a much more feigned smile than the one she gave MG
(9:27:52 PM) Fali: Ready for more of your witty words, Liand
(9:29:01 PM) Liand: Tell us about the route you have planned for your ride and this climbing stunt you have planned.
(9:29:07 PM) glinda-zzz is now known as glinda
(9:30:02 PM) Liand: Welcome, glinda. Feel free to join in at any time.
(9:30:12 PM) Fali: Oh, well, assuming I survive it given my lack of sufficient practice...
(9:31:54 PM) Liand: Of course.
(9:31:56 PM) glinda: I did what MadGastro did, signed on early so I could have a record of what was said
(9:32:02 PM) Fali: I had a good clean run on the Cliff Current last Ride, and I have a rope in place on a carefully calculated section of cliff that hangs down within jumping distance of where I'll be passing while on the Cliff Current
(9:32:04 PM) glinda: not that I'm going to catch up right now...
(9:32:44 PM) winterwind left the room ("need to sleep...I hope there's a transcript posted at voices").
(9:34:04 PM) TexAnne: I'm going to take off too. If only I didn't have to perform my civic at a definite time tomorrow!
(9:34:29 PM) TexAnne: Thanks for doing this chat, Riders! (And thanks to Freya for hosting it.)
(9:34:35 PM) Fali: I have my board set up to lock in trajectory, and I'll be vaulting up to catch the rope, swinging wide, then landing back on my board
(9:34:37 PM) Fali: unless I miss
(9:34:38 PM) MadGastro: Sleep well, Anne!
(9:34:42 PM) TexAnne left the room.
(9:34:44 PM) Liand: Thank you for joining us, Anne.
(9:35:44 PM) Liand: Will you be riding spinward or clearward at this point?
(9:37:16 PM) Fali: Spinward, that's going to start me off as I'm going toward the Gurge
(9:37:49 PM) Fali: I've got a couple more planned after that, but I don't want to give away all the fun before the run
(9:39:28 PM) Liand: That's a very impressive stunt to perform while in motion. How strength is the Cliff Current in that area?
(9:39:38 PM) Liand: Uhm... What strength, of course.
(9:39:44 PM) Liand: This wine must be stronger than it looks.
(9:40:09 PM) Fali: convenient you drink so much of it, then
(9:42:11 PM) Kosmik: It's a marked current, varies for most of its length between hard and crashing.
(9:43:25 PM) Kosmik: Where Fali is doing her cliff and rope trick is a soft section of the current, but don't mistake that for easier; leaving the board makes it just as hard as any part
(9:43:51 PM) Kosmik: any other part, excuse me
(9:44:27 PM) Liand: Thank you, Kosmik. Any final questions from our audience for either of these Riders?
(9:46:00 PM) Fali: Kosmik and I will stay for a few minutes in case they'd rather talk to us than you, Liand. But really, thanks for all this
(9:46:16 PM) Liand: Thank you, Fali. Any final words for your fans?
(9:46:46 PM) Fali: My words for my fans are not final but ongoing. Keep climbing!
(9:47:09 PM) Liand: Clever. Thank you!
(9:47:37 PM) Kosmik: Your Tellurian CLabs operatives are persistent, I'm still thirsty after that Reesa got me to talk her ear off about old adventures
(9:48:10 PM) Liand: You gave her an exclusive?
(9:48:15 PM) ***Liand tries not to look put out.
(9:48:34 PM) Kosmik: And you're getting this exclusive
(9:48:44 PM) Kosmik: so what's your concern?
(9:49:06 PM) Liand: None at all, of course. Thank you for joining me. Will you be coming back with Pitri for our next part?
(9:49:46 PM) Kosmik: of course, can't have you let loose with the younger Riders without someone to listen in and stop the worst arguments
(9:50:14 PM) Liand: I'll be looking forward to it.
(9:51:03 PM) Kosmik: I expect you are
(9:51:10 PM) ***Kosmik grins at Liand
(9:51:22 PM) MadGastro: I'm sure the rest of us are looking forward to it, too.
(9:51:46 PM) Liand: Thank you for joining us tonight at Freya Paxtwist's Under the Spindle for the first in our series of Gurge Rider discussions. We'll be back at Dark on 4 Spindle 12, right here, to continue the conversation with Pitri Pretty-face, Rider and Mikasa Rider. That's uh...
(9:52:13 PM) ***Liand taps his emkay. "About 8pm EST on Tuesday, January 20th."
(9:53:31 PM) Liand: This has been Liand, reporting for Gurge Rider Daily.
(9:54:12 PM) ***Liand Liand taps on his emkay and stands. He stands and offers an arm to Fali.
(9:54:35 PM) ***Fali clasps his forearm VERY firmly
(9:54:56 PM) ***Liand grunts, tries, fails not to look pained.
(9:55:27 PM) ***Fali smiles
(9:55:47 PM) ***Liand recovers his arm and offers it to Mikasa.
(9:56:25 PM) ***Kosmik grips arms in farewell with Liand and takes the standing opportunity to refill his drink
(9:57:21 PM) ***Liand signals to his entourage who emerge from the crowd, two young women and an eye-stalked Vikra. Liand vanishes into the kitchen while the others collect his gear.
(9:58:05 PM) ***Fali eagerly returns Liand's gear to the Vikkra
(9:58:17 PM) ***Enkin clasps arms with Fali and Mikasa. "thank you. That was educational and entertaining."
(9:58:32 PM) Kosmik: glad you enjoyed it, my friend
(9:59:00 PM) glinda: oh good, I can catch up on this before Tuesd... oh rodents. am not going to be home then either... (Inauguration Night; party at a friend's house)
(9:59:10 PM) glinda: um. "celebration" more accurate than just "party"
(9:59:30 PM) Enkin: Perhaps we should discuss that with CLabs and reschedule it if you Tellurians will be busy.
(9:59:57 PM) MadGastro: Most of the Americans will be, anyway.
(10:00:28 PM) ***Fali taps on her emkay quietly for a moment
(10:00:43 PM) ***Enkin goes to speak to the Vikkra. His emkay does not translate their speech.
(10:02:44 PM) glinda: Enkin: that might be a good idea...
(10:03:00 PM) glinda: (not for me, I can log it and catch up - though I would like to participate)
(10:03:12 PM) ***Liand emerges from the kitchen and nods again to his band. The three join him, the Vikkra nodding to Enkin and dipping his eyestalks goodbye.
(10:03:19 PM) ***Fali is interrupted by two bouncy females wearing the Mediator Eye. They start talking to her in obvious fan-girl fashion
(10:05:12 PM) ***Kosmik stretches out in his chair and smiles at glinda and MG
(10:05:27 PM) ***MadGastro grins at Mik.
(10:05:39 PM) MadGastro: Well, that was fun.
(10:05:41 PM) ***Fali leaves with the mediators, probably to get a drink
(10:06:29 PM) ***Liand is in deep discussion with the Vikkra, but this also allows Fali and the mediators to leave before him.
(10:07:25 PM) Kosmik: I'm glad you enjoyed it, MG. Any questions or discussion topics still lingering for you?
(10:07:41 PM) ***MadGastro is fiddling with an assemblage of brass and steel rods.
(10:07:41 PM) Fali left the room (quit: Quit: ).
(10:07:58 PM) ***Liand and his entourage depart.
(10:08:08 PM) Liand left the room (quit: Quit: Leaving.).
(10:08:30 PM) MadGastro: Well, I'm still not very clear on what Gurge riding is like. I didn't want to ask during the chat, since it would be old news to the Zayzans.
(10:08:37 PM) Kosmik: ooh, what's that you're playing with?
(10:08:45 PM) MadGastro: Not so much physical descriptions as...
(10:09:20 PM) MadGastro: I dunno, what it's like to use a patch of very rough water to actually travel between worlds.
(10:09:42 PM) MadGastro: It's a hammer assembly from a chiming repeater clock. The little brass bits sticking out strike bells.
(10:09:43 PM) ***Kosmik grins at MG
(10:09:45 PM) Kosmik: I like you
(10:09:57 PM) MadGastro: I want to use them to make a lace-and-brass collar.
(10:10:02 PM) ***MadGastro grins back.
(10:10:04 PM) ***Enkin raids the snacks hungrily.
(10:10:11 PM) MadGastro: I like you, too.
(10:11:31 PM) ***Kosmik spends some time cleaning and reloading the bowl of his pipe while he thinks about the question
(10:14:55 PM) Kosmik: Well, not all of us travel between worlds...but I do, and you know it. Well. It's scary, every time. the Adepts tell us the success of translation will never be a sure 100%, so there's always that bit of fear of loss of self
(10:16:34 PM) Kosmik: I'm not sure if it matters that I maintain focus and intent on my goal; our politico-philosophers like to debate that one into the long morning degrees.
(10:16:58 PM) Kosmik: I think it matters, so I do. I suspect it's the mattering that matters
(10:17:16 PM) MadGastro: *nod* That makes sense to me.
(10:17:43 PM) Enkin: A Spelaean once described their translation as 'like a controlled fall off the mountain with the intention of landing on less than jagged rocks.' I thought that was poetic, though not especially descriptive.
(10:18:47 PM) Kosmik: I'm surprised you convinced a Spelaean to go through, they're usually content to have others come to them
(10:19:02 PM) MadGastro: Is it... Is it like being on water all the way across? Do you have to arrive on water?
(10:19:36 PM) MadGastro: Water is . . . significant to me, personally, so I wonder.
(10:19:49 PM) Kosmik: You don't have to arrive on water, no. But arriving still feels like washing into shore with a choppy current
(10:19:54 PM) ***Enkin shakes his head. "No, no... it was just in some writings I read somewhere. From the records of some caverna... I have it in my notes somewhere..."
(10:19:57 PM) ***Enkin begins tapping his emkay
(10:20:22 PM) Kosmik: It's chaotic, but soothing
(10:20:25 PM) ***MadGastro nods.
(10:20:27 PM) Kosmik: all at once
(10:20:37 PM) MadGastro: That makes sense to me.
(10:20:49 PM) MadGastro: I spent a lot of time in and on the water when I was younger.
(10:21:15 PM) Kosmik: You would love our water
(10:21:22 PM) MadGastro: I bet I would
(10:21:31 PM) Enkin: Hmm... no not that one...
(10:21:37 PM) MadGastro: Is the water there warm?
(10:21:44 PM) MadGastro: I do so miss a warm ocean.
(10:23:01 PM) Kosmik: Warm enough to enjoy a deep night swim
(10:23:14 PM) Enkin: It was from "Annals of Deep Blue Under, Volume 154, Bookwahj Alliance Translation."
(10:23:24 PM) ***MadGastro grins, big and dreamy.
(10:23:24 PM) ***Enkin smiles, satisfied.
(10:23:34 PM) MadGastro: Oh, I miss that so much!
(10:23:47 PM) Kosmik: Oh, you do enjoy those, do you?
(10:23:54 PM) ***Kosmik grins
(10:23:56 PM) ***Enkin goes back to eating.
(10:24:09 PM) MadGastro: When I was a teenager, my friends and I would sneak out to the beach late at night, and go skinny-dipping (which is illegal here, and we almost got caught more than once).
(10:24:39 PM) MadGastro: Very few things in life are finer than floating on one's back in a warm ocean, wearing as little as possible, and looking up at the stars.
(10:25:20 PM) Enkin: Reminds me of some long, deep nights in desert hotsprings...
(10:25:57 PM) Kosmik: that is one of my favorite nightly activities, MG. When you visit, you'll have to join me
(10:26:58 PM) MadGastro: I'd like that very much.
(10:27:01 PM) ***Enkin takes his glass and goes into the kitchen.
(10:28:27 PM) MadGastro: Thank you.
(10:28:44 PM) MadGastro: And now, if you'll excuse me, I need to get a few things done.
(10:28:52 PM) MadGastro: But it was very nice talking with you.
(10:29:07 PM) Kosmik: It was a pleasure for me as always, conversing with you
(10:29:13 PM) Kosmik: please lets do it again soon
(10:29:32 PM) MadGastro: Definitely!
(10:29:46 PM) MadGastro: Bye, everyone!
(10:29:52 PM) ***Kosmik waves
(10:29:53 PM) MadGastro left the room (quit: Quit: *poof*).
(10:30:50 PM) glinda: Kosmik: I agree on "it's the mattering that matters"
(10:31:03 PM) Kosmik: oh? you have found this to be true for you?
(10:31:27 PM) glinda: yes, very much so
(10:32:16 PM) glinda: I'd rather hear, for example, a musician who may miss some notes but imbues the performance with feeling, than one who's technically perfect but... cold.
(10:32:33 PM) Kosmik: Very nicely put
(10:33:00 PM) glinda: thank you :)
(10:33:47 PM) ***Kosmik frowns down at his emkay as it gives a soft clear tone
(10:34:31 PM) ***Kosmik reads the message then bows to glinda and those still remaining in the room
(10:34:46 PM) glinda: take care!
(10:35:18 PM) Kosmik: If you will excuse me, Jik is asking for me about a harbor issue. I must leave for now, see you in a few nights
(10:35:43 PM) ***Kosmik leaves through the kitchen so he can give his goodbyes to their beautiful hostess

We've been informed that the next chat has been postponed due to the Tellurian holiday. We'll inform you of the new date as soon as we have it.
